Our Story
Business growth and customer-focused values
Since 1996, SJD has taken great responsibility and pride in helping clients manage, maintain and improve their electrical installations, to the highest design standards. As we have grown over the last 25 years, our values of honesty, trust, integrity, responsiveness and customer care have become even more firmly embedded into our organisational culture.
Consistent growth with a solid reputation
Company founder Stephen Devine was previously Inspector of Works at the Milton Keynes Development Corporation, before he incorporated SJD Associates Ltd in 1996 to provide services to local commercial and industrial clients. After growing the business for a decade, daughter Ruth Devine joined in 2006 as co-Director and SJD moved into its first commercial premises. Five years later in 2013 we moved to an even larger premises to accommodate our ongoing plans for growth. As Stephen neared retirement, Darren Hurley, former MD of E7 Building Services, invested in the business and became Co-Director alongside Ruth. Since Stephen’s retirement in 2017, Ruth and Darren have continued to grow the business and its exceptional reputation amongst the local community.
Value, quality and performance
SJD’s story will evolve as we continue to deliver value, quality and performance for our clients and grow the business even further. Our female-led, relationship-based approach is unusual in an industry often dominated by adversarial contract management.
Whether your project requires straightforward electrical design and installation, comprehensive mechanical and electrical services, a Principal Contractor or consultancy support for tendering, take a look at the full range of what SJD can offer:
Multi-award winning Contractors
We believe awards should be won on merit and recognition alone, and that’s why we only apply for those that do not require paid entry or sponsorship. In 2019 we were delighted to win the Small Business of the Year category in the prestigious Milton Keynes Business Achievement Awards. At industry level, we have been highly commended in the ECA Industry Awards in 2019 and 2021 and were Electrical Times Industry Awards finalists in 2019.
